Internationally renowned stage director and dramaturg Andrea DelGiudice is known for her innovative, holistic, historically informed and female-focused approach to opera. Her decades-long, acclaimed career of singing the iconic leading Italiante Lirico-spinto soprano roles in major European and American opera houses alongside renowned artists including Placido Domingo, Johan Botha, Sherill Milnes, Alexei Steblianko, and Nicola Martinucci and many others provided her with experience and insight that she now masterfully translates to the opera stage from the other side of the curtain. Fluent in Italian, and a pianist, Andrea is equally comfortable working with singers and actors on either side of the Atlantic.
Inspired by historical heroines, DelGiudice’s productions are fresh and female-focused. Her heartfelt approach to the operatic stage is voraciously researched and steeped in truth, wrapped in a unique perspective that she calls “HerStory.” She made her directing debut at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center with her edgy conceptual production of Verdi's La Traviata followed by Bizet's Carmen. 2021 brought the double bill of the new imagining of Suor Angelica and the world premiere of Pietá, composed by Jake Landau, with DelGiudice as the libretto's co-collaborator. The Narnia Festival premiered the first staged production of the double bill to great acclaim ,The film version of Pietá garnered multiple awards, including Best Musical Documentary at the tenth annual People’s Film Festival in New York City. In May of 2022, DelGiudice will direct the American premiere of Pieta and Suor Angelica at Axelrod Performing Arts Center.
In February, Andrea will make yet another debut with Light Opera of New Jersey, where she will direct La Boheme in a new edgy, relevant story of our times. In July of 2022, DelGiudice will return to Narni, Italy to direct a new concept for Dido and Aeneas at the Narnia Festival.
Beyond directing productions and her work as a dramaturg, Andrea DelGiudice is one of the most highly sought-after voice teachers, an acclaimed masterclass instructor, and vocal consultant for numerous Opera companies and composer’s symposiums. As a talent consultant, Andrea works closely with Encompass Arts Management, where she successfully connects crossover artists with film and television projects.
